Marble Cat x Native Crafts One-Handle Bag

The allure of bespoke items lies in their being "one-of-a-kind, made just for you." We wondered if we could bring that special joy to customers who choose our prêt-à-porter line, and from that thought, this collection was born. At the same time, as a craftsman, I feel a strong sense of urgency regarding traditional crafts that are being lost in our rapidly changing modern society. I questioned whether ancient techniques could be applied to modern manufacturing. In my search for an answer, I focused on the "marbled paper" technique, a traditional craft from Florence. I had long been fascinated by its beauty, so I visited a workshop and learned the techniques and philosophy from a craftsman. Then, I thought it would be interesting to depict cats, the symbol of Il Micio, freely playing and dancing within the flowing marble patterns.

Through repeated manual experiments and trial and error, I found that traditional techniques alone could not achieve the expression I envisioned. By combining traditional craftsmanship with computer graphics, I was finally able to create the ideal pattern. Furthermore, the expression of the cats varies depending on where this material is cut. While the pattern is the same, no two pieces have the exact same expression. It's mass-produced, yet each piece is unique. It's a special encounter, much like a bespoke item. The material used is canvas with PVC processing, achieving high waterproofness and durability. While offering practical use for everyday life without hesitation, it expresses respect for Florence's traditional crafts and Il Micio's playful spirit.

This one-handle bag is born from the fusion of elements from Il Micio's past models. It features a minimalist structure that highlights the texture of the Native Crafts series, combined with pieces of vachetta leather cut into a "hachinoji" (figure-eight) shape, resulting in a fresh and innovative form characteristic of the brand. Its compact size can accommodate essential items like a smartphone and wallet, adding an elegant touch to everyday outings. The body features a design inspired by the traditional Florentine "marbled paper" technique, which Fukaya has incorporated into modern manufacturing. The PVC-coated canvas fabric subtly features the brand's iconic cat motif within the flowing marble patterns. Since the pattern's appearance varies depending on where the fabric is cut, each piece has a unique expression despite sharing the same pattern. This item offers Il Micio's unique design and playful spirit.
